Information for Residents

Welcome to Arcola! We are pleased to have you in our town! This is some general information that will be of interest to you.

There is a hospital in Town as well as a Medical Centre. A massage therapist works out of the same building. A chiropractor comes there once a week.

There is a daycare in town that takes children ages six weeks to 12 years old. It is situated at 301 Coteau Street. Their phone number is 455-2186.

The Arcola School offers pre-Kindergarten through to Grade 12.

The Southeast Regional Library operates out of the same building as the Town Office. It is open Tuesdays 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 2 p.m. to 5 p.m., Wednesdays 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. and Thursdays 9:00 a.m. to 1:300p.m. and 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.

The MacMurray Theatre is open October to May with shows on Friday and Saturday.

Water billings are sent out bi-monthly. Meter readings are done at the end of February, April, June, August, October, and December. If you are missed when meters are read a note will be left asking you to read the meter and call or email the reading into the office at 455-2212 or arcadmin@sasktel.net. This can be done even in the evenings as you can leave a message. One month for water, sewer, grey garbage container and blue recycle container is $100.00 for 3,000 gallons of water or less. Use of more than 3,000 gallons a month is $6 per 1,000 gallons. The wheels of the containers need to be closest to your property as the truck dumps it automatically. Utility billings are due within 30 days.

There is a landfill transfer station south of town. You can take additional refuse to the landfill with applicable fees applied. Summer hours (May to October 12) are Tuesday 1 p.m. to 2 p.m., Thursday 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. (Starting June 1/2023) and Saturday 9 p.m. to 12 p.m noon.. Winter hours (October 15 to April) are Tuesdays and Saturdays from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m.

The Town of Arcola has its cable TV system through Access Communications at 1-866-363-2225. They have many options to choose from.

Taxes are billed in June and are due by year-end. Unpaid taxes are advertised early in the year and a tax lien is registered unless paid sooner. All costs for tax enforcement are added to the taxes.

Payments to The Town can be made by debit card, cheque, cash or you can be set up for Electronic Fund Transfer for authorized payments to come directly from your account on the first day of the month. Internet payments can be made if you deal with a Credit Union, CIBC, Royal Bank, Scotia Bank or Bank of Montreal.

The Town of Arcola has a Building Bylaw which requires that you make an application for any building projects prior to construction. The permit fee is $25 plus the costs of the building official. The Town requires engineer-stamped drawings for any new construction over 100 square feet. More details are available at the Town Office as well as the proper form.

The Business Bylaw requires businesses and persons doing business in the Town of Arcola to purchase an annual Business Licence. The cost depends on the business that you will do in the Town. If you get someone to do work for you in Arcola you can ask them if they have a business licence. This could be construction work, right down to carpet cleaning or selling fish to you. These are only examples. Home-based businesses, including hobbies (if you sell any of your articles) are also required to purchase a licence annually, which is valid from January 1 to December 31.

Cats and dogs are required to be licensed annually. The cost is $25.00 per pet for a life time license. A maximum of two (2) adult cats or dogs are allowed per household. Pit Bulls and Rottweilers or any mix of these breeds are prohibited from being in town. There are other details in the respective bylaws which are available at the Town Office.
